Character – doing the right thing even when no one is watching, because it is the right thing to do.


Competence – excellent skills and knowledgeability, not only in the business and industry of the organization he or she is leading but also in business acumen, persuasive communication skills and the capacity to solve problems.


Chemistry – the ability to build and maintain relationships with emotional intelligence, to influence others to achieve mission and goals, the capacity to inspire loyalty, and the ability to build and lead teams.


Culture fit – the capacity to adapt to the culture of the organization, to match his or her messages and methods to how the organization gets things done in order to succeed.


Change savvy – the skills to plan and lead change, the perceptiveness to anticipate both intended and unintended consequences, and the ability to help others through change whether they resist it, want to accelerate it, or something between.
